Most Common Summer Allergies

June 20, 2021

summer allergies tampaTo most of us, springtime and allergies go hand-in-hand. The truth is, summer comes with its own set of allergens and irritants.

If you have itchy eyes, a runny nose, or sneezing during the summer, you may have seasonal allergies. You do not have to live with these annoying symptoms. An allergist can help you get the relief you need to go about your daily activities.

Let’s take a look at some of the most common summer allergens.

Pollen

Spring brings tree pollen, but summer brings grass pollen, weed pollen.

In central Florida, the most likely summer pollen culprits are:

  • Bahiagrass
  • Bermuda grass
  • Johnsongrass
  • Ryegrass
  • Ragweed
  • Pigweed

Dry, hot, and windy days create the ideal environment for grass and weed pollen. Winds carry the pollen, causing a multitude of allergy symptoms. Ragweed and other pollen can travel hundreds of miles under the right conditions.

Mold

In rainy Florida, the warm and humid summer months are the ideal growing conditions for molds.  Mold counts can reach extremely high levels during June, July, and August and may be more common than pollen.  Like pollen, mold spores travel through the air and can trigger an allergic response.

Stings from Insects

The warmth of summer brings all the stinging insects out. Insect stings can trigger responses ranging from pain and itching to an anaphylactic reaction.

Managing Your Seasonal Allergies

If you seem to always feel sick at certain times of the year, it is time to see an allergy specialist. An allergist can help get to the root of the problem and develop a treatment plan accordingly.

From year-round to seasonal allergies, we have a treatment plan for you. Give us a call today and let the Allergy Tampa team help end your suffering.
